Walton, are you ready for a better internet connection?...We now have an option! If you are first time vistor or a returning visitor to this site please read the entire page and fill out the form at the bottom of the page!I thought that it was time for an update. We have been doing some talking to different companies and have come up with a viable broad-band internet option for those of you that are interested in obaining such a service. There is a company based out of Peru that is very interested in bringing broad-band wireless internet service to Walton. They have contacted the Walton Town board and have been granted preliminary approval to place an antenna on top of the Walton water towner. This tower will only serve Walton and the surrounding area. I have spoken with the representative from North Central Communications and he has told me that we will need at least 20 people to sign up for this service for it to be worth their while to place the tower. There will be an initial set up fee to have the service installed at your home of $225.00. This will cover the purchase price and installation of all necessary hardware to receive the signal. The only requirement is that your computer must have a network interface card (NIC) already installed. If you do not have one installed in your computer they are available at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples, or just about any computer supply company for a minimal cost. If you would like, I may be able to get some of these and will be happy to help with the installation in your machine. If you are unsure if you have a network interface card (NIC) installed in your computer please contact me and I will be happy to take a look at it and let you know. Presently there are 2 different residential packages available from North Central Communications. The cost of the first package is $24.95 a month and the other is $39.95 a month. This cost is presently comparable to local ISP's as well as AOL and MSN. The main difference is the amount of "bandwidth" that you will be alloted through your connection. If you have any questions or are not sure of which package is right for you, please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to make a recomendation or you can contact North Central Communications directly by accessing their web site. You can simply click here. to visit their site. They also have a Frequently Asked Questions area here that can probably a answer most, if not all, of your questions or concerns about wireless internet connectivity. I think that this is very exciting for Walton and it's citizens. We should embrace this opportunity and support this as an advancement of the people of our community. If you are interested in obtaining this service please fill out the following short form and hit the send it to me. I will be forwarding this information to North Central Communications as soon as I receive it. Thank You, Michael Snook |
